Newfoundland and Labrador
Newfoundland and Labrador the most easterly province of Canada.
Newfoundland is an island that was independent until 1949 when it joined confederation with Canada. Its interior is a combination of forest, heath, lakes and rivers spread over a terrain that ranges from mountainous in the west to rolling hills in the centre and east.
Labrador, an adjoining mainland coastal region which borders Quebec, is also mountainous in the west, although its rivers are larger and wilder.
